Barbi Vin Santo del Chianti DOC

2010

In a Nutshell

The classic dessert wine style of Italy, usually served with Cantuccini.

Tasting Notes

Intense amber in colour with heady aromatics of raisins and nuts. The palate is voluptuous with plenty of raisin-y fruit and figgy, nutty notes. Persistent through to the finish which is lifted, with apricot and bitter almond notes.

Production Notes

From every one hundred kilograms of grapes, only 10 to 12 liters of wine are obtained. The grapes for Vin Santo have to be hung manually bunch by bunch, after five or six months they are taken and pressed and then aged for 5 years in small one quintal barrels called "caratelli".

Producer - Fattoria dei Barbi

Many wine families boast a colourful history, but few in the world can match the Colombini clan, owners of great Montalcino estate Fattoria dei Barbi. The family history goes back to the year 1000, the distinctive coat of arms (four doves separated by a cross against a blue field) was designed in about 1200, and their presence in Montalcino dates to 1352.
