Il Grigio da San Felice Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG

2013

In a Nutshell

A new classification for the best wines of Chianti Classico - this is produced from San Felice's best plots of Sangiovese and oldest vines. Come and see what all the fuss is about!

Tasting Notes

Enchanting aromas of violets, cassis, tobacco and licquorice. Full-bodied and velvety smooth - the ripe plum and black fruit characters are enhanced by fine tannins, beautifully balanced acidity and a touch of spice. Should improve with cellaring of perhaps 10 to 15 years.

Production Notes

After harvesting in the second week of October, each grape variety was fermented separately in stainless steel, followed by a 22-day maceration at 28-30 degrees C. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured for 24 months - half in large 60-100hl Slavonian oak ovals and half in 225-500l French oak barriques. The wine was then held in bottle for a further 8 months before release.

Press Quotes & Awards

…a delightful wine packed tight with brilliant red fruit intensity and beautiful background notes of pressed violets, liquorice, crushed stone, honey and blue flower. It offers everything you should expect of a traditional Chianti Classico. The mouthfeel is silky and streamlined with polished tannins and an impressive sense of elegant length and finesse. This is sublime Sangiovese that is executed with extreme honesty. 94+ points.

Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate.

Smooth and delicious, this boasts enticing scents of violet, berry, leather, tilled soil and aromatic herb. The radiant, elegant palate offers ripe red cherry, crushed raspberry, white pepper and liquorice, while a note of pipe tobacco closes the finish. Polished tannnins and bright acidity provide balance and structure. 95 points.
