Krohn Colheita 1982 in wooden box

1982

In a Nutshell

A stunning richly flavoured Colheita, drinking perfectly after 15 years in barrel!

Tasting Notes

Deep gold to burnt orange in colour, with a complex bouquet of crème brulee, nougat and caramelised almonds. The palate is reminiscent of course dark marmalade, crystallised ginger, nuts and lemon zest. Beautifully developed with balanced acidity.

Production Notes

Fermentation in open granite tanks called 'lagares', where the grapes are trodden by foot. Fermentation is interrupted by the addition of grape spirit to preserve a certain degree of natural sweetness. All ageing is done in 547 litre oak barrels (the traditional 'pipe') and larger casks. The Port spends at least 29 years maturing in wood, before being bottled, unfiltered.

Producer - Wiese and Krohn

Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians – Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn.

International Wine and Spirit Competition 2013

An inspirational port at a frankly ludicrous price, a worthy winner of the inaugural Auchterlonie Award. Pale tawny in colour, with chocolate, hazelnut and walnuts on the nose alongside dried fruits, it opens up to offer tobacco leaves, spices, pepper, walnuts, chocolate, coffee, hazelnuts, fig, prune... – I could go on!
