Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Shiraz

2013

In a Nutshell

If, like me, you find Australian Shiraz rather big and overblown then try this - full bodied, yet elegant.

Tasting Notes

A deep ripe mulberry colour, displaying glints of youthful purple at the rim. Intensely floral aromas of pepper and spice play with rich red fruits. Palate is full bodied and complex with silky tannins and a generous length of flavour.

impressive aromatics,..., peppery, proper Rhône style with great length and depth, and beautiful concentration.

Very good. Redcurrant and blackcurrant, excellent balance and viscosity.

Dark and juicy, with notes of fresh-ground black pepper adding interest to the lively purple plum and blackberry flavors, finishing with focus and intensity. Light-footed. Drink now through 2018.

91 Points. Wine Spectator, Harvey Steiman 2014

Taking the cool climate thing to a new level this liquorice-scented Shiraz manages to bring to the party incredible aromatic complexity which overlays a purple palate. Add to this a touch of iodine (found in the greatest Hermitages and Côte-Rôties) and you get a truly enchanting manifestation of the Shiraz variety. Follow the recipe idea on the label and you won’t go wrong when drinking this wine but if I might also point out another food group that adores crunchy, vital Shiraz and that is, of course, the cheese arena. So my advice is to buy two bottles and continue the joy to main course and beyond.
