In a Nutshell
A richly flavoured and complex late harvest Verdicchio from Monte Schiavo's prized 'Fossato' vineyard.
Intense and persistent aromas of honey and almond blossom followed by more developed ripe fruit characters. Rich and full flavoured with concentrated peachy fruit balanced by crisp acidity and stony mineral notes. The finish is ripe and honeyed with zesty grapefruit and lime flavours.
Made from Verdicchio grapes grown in Monte Schiavo's 'Fossato' vineyard in the commune of Poggio S. Marcello. The vineyard is at 205 metres above sea level and the soil is clay. Vines are trained on wires in the cordon spur style. The grapes are hand harvested in October in several passes. Yields are very low - below 50hl per hectare. The hand selected grapes are fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel. The fermentation is initiated using local yeasts and completed using selected yeasts. The wine is is matured on the lees for 5 months in stainless steel before being bottled.
The 350ha Monte Schiavo estate in Marche is a testament to the Pieralisi family whose background was in olive oil manufacturing equipment, but 20 years ago began to invest in agriculture, also purchasing vineyards from the co-operative within Maiolati Spontini. The estate now consists of around 100ha of vineyard, 50 ha olive groves, and other agricultural crops. They own a portfolio of prime vineyard within the Castelli di Jesi zone, and the Monte Schiavo winery is situated amongst some of their most prized plots, notably the Colle del Sole vineyard.
