Bordeaux-style supertuscan.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red in colour. The bouquet is full of red fruit, with hints of black cherry and blueberry. The wine has excellent balance and length with a tangy finish of blackberry and dried fruit.

Production Notes

2013 was a good vintage, characterised by abundant rains during winter and spring, which delayed budburst and fruit set. Temperatures increased from from mid-July, encouraging the growth of the vines. Cool weather in August further slowed the already-delayed growth of the vines. However, long, slow ripening kept acidity levels fresh and promoted maturation without excessive sugar levels.

The grapes were transported to the winery in plastic crates of up to 17kg. Natural yeasts were used for fermentation. Vinification took place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. Matured in Slavonian oak casks, the wine then spent approximately 10 months in second or third passage French oak barriques. The wine then spent a further 10 months in bottle before release.

When Vittorio Moretti, together with his daughter Francesca, set out in search of a property in the Maremma in 1997, they asked Attilio Scienza, Italy’s most celebrated viticultural professor and consultant, to help them find the best spot.

Smells rather bordeaux-like but with a dusty overcoat and just a little earthy. Taut, fresh and on the leaner end of the spectrum with refined tannins. Nicely restrained and dry on the finish. 16.5 points
