In a Nutshell
Tuscany powerhouse Mazzei's Sicilian Project
Sumptuous aromas of forest fruits, orange peel and mulberry on the nose with excellent depth and concentration. This full bodied wine enjoys the trademark Mazzei smoothness, elegance and a judicious use of oak.
The small but efficient cellar is equipped with temperature controlled stainless steel vats. After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed. Maceration lasts for approximately two weeks. Fermentation then takes place at 26-28°C. The wine is then aged for 10 months in 225 litre barriques (33% new) before bottling.
Owners of Castello di Fonterutoli in Chianti, the Mazzei family have been making renowned wines since the 14th century and are closely linked to the history of winemaking in Tuscany. Today, three generations work together running the Zisola estate, just outside Noto in Sicily, which they purchased in 2002: Lapo Mazzei with the help of his sons, Filippo and Francesco, and Filippo’s son, Giovanni. The family devotes itself to winemaking, with a constant commitment to innovation and improvement while respecting tradition, family values and the natural environment.
