In a Nutshell
Fantastic duo from Mazzei's Sicilian project.
Nero d'Avola: Sumptuous aromas of forest fruits, orange peel and mulberry on the nose with excellent depth and concentration. This full bodied wine enjoys the trademark Mazzei smoothness, elegance and a judicious use of oak.
Azisa Grillo Catarratto blend: Vibrant lemon yellow in colour with attractive aromas of ripe citrus fruits, delicate florals and a hint of tropical fruit. The palate is fresh and zesty, typical of Grillo, but with good weight and a full mouth-feel, thanks to the Catarratto.
Owners of Castello di Fonterutoli in Chianti, the Mazzei family have been making renowned wines since the 14th century and are closely linked to the history of winemaking in Tuscany. Today, three generations work together running the Zisola estate, just outside Noto in Sicily, which they purchased in 2002: Lapo Mazzei with the help of his sons, Filippo and Francesco, and Filippo’s son, Giovanni. The family devotes itself to winemaking, with a constant commitment to innovation and improvement while respecting tradition, family values and the natural environment.
