G D Vajra Albe Barolo DOCG

2014

In a Nutshell

Classic Barolo of great finesse.

Tasting Notes

This wine is a ruby red colour, with aromas of red fruits and plums combining with floral notes, pine needles and brushwood. 'Le Albe' is full of sophisticated and delicate flavours supported by ripe tannins and an elegant acidity.

Production Notes

The grapes were hand picked and hand sorted in the second and third week of October. Fermentation, with indigenous yeasts, and maceration lasted 20 days at temperatures not exceeding 32ºC with traditional punch downs. Malolactic fermentation followed in 25-50 hectolitre Slavonian oak casks. The wine remained in oak for a total of 42 months before bottling.

Press Quotes & Awards

Vajra's 2014 Barolo Albe is a pretty wine, but it is also a touch slender. Part of that is, of course, attributable to the vintage, but in recent years the Albe has been stylistically more similar to the other Barolos in the range than it was at the outset. Suggestions of sweet tobacco, cinnamon, dried flowers and black cherry are layered in this supple, easygoing Barolo. Drink it over the next handful of years. 90 points.
