In a Nutshell
A restrained, textural Chardonnay from the Campo Fiorito vineyard, a 5 hectare north-east facing plot on the stunning Il Cascinone estate.
A delicate nose of ripe stone fruit. The palate is fresh and well balanced with ripe peach characters, a broad mouthfeel and a touch of minerality. Close your eyes and you'd be hard pushed to differentiate this from Macon.
Produced on the 60 ha estate of Il Cascinone, in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte. Grapes sourced from just 5 ha of land are used for this wine. Planted in 1998, the north east facing slopes help to ensure the grapes don't get too much heat. Grapes are then typically harvested between the end of August and the beginning of September. 10% of the wine was fermented and aged in French oak barriques for added richness and complexity.
Azienda Agricola Il Cascinone
Il Cascinone was acquired by leading Piemonte producer Araldica in 1999 – an exceptional estate in the Monferrato hills which has undergone extensive restoration and replanting. Now around 70ha of the total 102ha are in full production, with the warmer, southwest-facing slopes used to grow Barbera, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon – whilst the northeast slopes are ideal for more aromatic varieties Brachetto and Moscato, along with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
