In a Nutshell
Bountiful fruit in this hugely popular red.
Ruby red in colour, with a complex and intense nose of red cherries, raspberries and cranberries, which continue through onto the palate. The wine has firm yet smooth tannins with a lingering spicy finish and hints of vanilla.
The grapes were harvested by hand. After destemming and crushing, maceration took place. Fermentation followed and lasted 15 days at temperatures of up to 25°C. The wine was transferred into stainless-steel tanks where it remained for one month. It then aged in American oak barrels for six months prior to bottling.
Vigneti del Salento
This is the Puglia venture of the Farnese group (responsible for Gran Sasso, Vesevo and Tufarello ). The wines were made at two wineries in the province of Taranto on the western flank of Salento. The style of the wines – fresh whites, soft and generous reds – will be familiar to those who buy their other wines, as winemaker Filippo Baccalaro is the driving force behind this new label.
