Production Notes
Production Notes
Vinification took place at the start of the art winery at Quinta do Seixo in the Cima Corgo and Quinta da Leda in the Douro Superior. The grapes underwent destemming and soft crushing before being transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. During the fermentation, gentle maceration took place at controlled temperatures in order to obtain the ideal amount of extraction. Ageing took place in used French oak barrels for roughly 12 months.

Producer Information
The origins of Casa Ferreirinha date back to 1952, when the first vintage of Barca-Velha was produced. Fernando Nicolau de Almeida pioneered the quality revolution in Douro still wines, with Casa Ferreirinha becoming the first producer in the region dedicated entirely to this style rather than Port. Named after legendary Porto matriarch Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, one of the formidable widows of the world of wine, Casa Ferreirinha pays homage to the memory of this visionary woman.
Purchased by Sogrape in 1987, Casa Ferreirinha comprises 520 hectares of vineyards in all three Douro subregions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, and Douro Superior. The beautiful Quinta da Leda is Casa Ferreirinha’s flagship estate. Located close to the border with Spain, in the far east of the Douro Superior, it is the source of grapes for many of Casa Ferreria’s top wines.
Luís Sottomayor has been head winemaker at Casa Ferreirinha since 1989 and restrains the Douro’s natural exuberance to produce wines that have vibrant freshness, beautiful texture and depth. The care with which Luís selects the fruit for each wine is especially evident in the quality of the whites.
The Casa Ferreirinha reds are all characterised by great depth of flavour. The oak-aged ‘Vinha Grande’ marries intense and concentrated aromas of red and black fruit with subtle spicy hints of tobacco box and cocoa.
