The Grange Classic English Sparkling
The Grange Classic English Sparkling
Sparkling Wine | NV | UK, Hampshire | 12.0%
A lovely pale gold colour with a pleasing, persistent mousse. Fresh lemon and orange zest on the nose with hints of apple, white fruits and undertones of brioche. The palate is clean and fresh, with some creamy redcurrant and pear notes underscored by a full generous mouthfeel, subtly toasted with rounded autolytic flavours working well with a fresh note of green apple.

Production Notes
Hand-picked and bunch pressed in mid-October, at the end of a roller-coaster summer that ended with a very warm gentle September, the grapes fermented mainly in stainless steel tanks with about 14% in fourth fill oak barrels. About 35% of the final base wines went through malolactic fermentation to further soften the gentle acidity and there were 11 base wines with the 2015 Reserve as a 12th. The final blend was 85% from the 2016 base wines and 15% from the Reserve and comprised 65% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier and 15% Pinot Noir. Secondary fermentation in bottle was followed by 33 months ageing on lees before the wine was disgorged at the end of January 2020 and dosed to 9g/l with 12% alcohol by volume.
